title: Ode To The Coffee Women
date: April 21st 2021

Coffee by Tate was set up in 2011 to buy and roast specialty coffee for the Tate Gallery cafés, bars and restaurants. The artworks respond to the main values of Coffee by Tate: quality, community and gender equality. The four winners each have their artwork appear on one type of coffee.

"Ode To The Coffee Women" is a tribute to the women working in the coffee production business. This artwork honours specifically the seven female producers from Hichozal in Honduras.
The artwork depicts seven distinct shapes, symbolising the seven women. The lines used to represent their features such as the eyes, hands and legs are reminiscent of the coffee aromatic fumes. The two women on the sides are depicted in a cerulean blue, evoking the beautiful colours of the Honduran flag. While the five women in between represent each an ingredient or scent derived from the coffee. From left to right, orange blossom, vanilla, coffee, lavender and honey. The above mentioned features harmoniously blend together in this artwork to celebrate female diversity within the coffee industry, while symbolising the explosion of flavours derived from the coffee itself.
